We have three vacancies for the coming season; all positions start on July 1st or sooner by arrangement.
We are looking for two experienced work riders, with ability to ride novice and experienced horses. This would suit a keen rider wanting to be a jockey, or with experience in either racing or another horse sport. Good rates of pay and an excellent working atmosphere.
We have a couple of horses who have worked hard this winter and they are showing the effects in their races; Vertigo (pictured), Hey Listen and Bescot Springs have all won for us this season, Bescot three times, Vertigo twice and Hey Listen once, and they all ran flat this afternoon. A big grass field is their next destination and they deserve a good break.
On the other hand Ballycool, Voyage…
Morning Time flattered to deceive as he made up ground quickly and looked very competitive until fading after the last at Carlisle, coming fourth. There is something that is stopping him in his races and we will investigate further.
The new french horse, Argentix has settled in and had a canter and jump in the school. He is a winner and has been placed over fences and will be campaigned…
It was pretty fast ground at Kelso yesterday and when Pulpitarian found it too quick we took out our other two runners who really need good to soft. We have had such a dry month and there are plenty of other opportunities for the young horses.
We had a good morning on the yard with lots of trotting round the fields to freshen up our imminent runners, and some jumping in the school for the…
Some of our stables have security cameras in them, allowing us to track what the horses are doing all day and night. In the run up to the National I spent many hours watching Arthur and it was really interesting to see how much time he spent lying down sleeping. I suspect that this helps with his daily recovery and his laid back nature saves him from stress. He has a strong routine, and this includes…
We are heading into a quiet few weeks for the horses on the yard, with just thirty horses left in for a summer campaign. The others are either turned out here or a couple go home to their owners. In training the horses get daily turnout so heading to the field is not a novelty, but with the warm weather you can really see them relax and thrive. Pictured is Moorstown on his daily turnout, having…
A satisfactory comeback run for Seven Devils who traveled and jumped well and looked very competitive until the top of the home straight when a lack of a recent run told. He stayed on again after the last fence and this was a solid run. He is pictured afterwards with his owners Mark and Susie Russell.
Boy's On Tour had a canter this morning and looks really well. He has been sold to new…
The very dry past month has been welcome for our relaxation but not for the grass growing nor racecourse going. We have quite a few horses turned out through the day but only a handful who stay out at night as well as there is just not enough goodness in the grass. Still, the sun is enjoyed by those who are out, including the three Milan geldings, One For Arthur, Big River and Templenabeau, pictured.
A new season and the wins and prizemoney are back to zero. We have a high bar to aim for this season.
The start of May is always an exciting time for us as we start the summer season of Perth, Hexham, Cartmel and Market Rasen. With most of the winter horses turned out we can concentrate on those remaining in training along with other issues.
Ronnie and Will have been fencing off…
It has been a super season for us, made special not just by One For Arthur's win in the Grand National, but also by the improved perfomance of our team as the season went on.
Eleventh place in the trainers' table with £926,414 prizemoney and forty three winners is excellent and a rise from twenty sixth place last year. Of course, the Grand National prizemoney, which made One For Arthur leading…
