Sleeping And Pre Kelso

Some of our stables have security cameras in them, allowing us to track what the horses are doing all day and night. In the run up to the National I spent many hours watching Arthur and it was really interesting to see how much time he spent lying down sleeping. I suspect that this helps with his daily recovery and his laid back nature saves him from stress. He has a strong routine, and this includes four or five sessions sleeping, often flat out and for up to an hour at a time. He is still doing this; I am glad that I know that it is normal.

The bumper tomorrow at Kelso is in his honour, and we have a nice youngster declared in it, Mighty Thunder. A very athletic four year old he will make an excellent hurdler and chaser and tomorrow is about experience on the track. However he has shown good ability at home and we think that he should run with credit.

Earlier we have the Two Black Labs' hurdler, Pulpitarian in the two mile six hurdle race; he will be fine on the ground and should put his poor run last time behind him.

Deepsand is probably better on heavy ground but he has won on fast going too. He has been a super horse for us this autumn and winter and has a fighters attitude. His top weight is offset by Alex's yard claim and he should run a big race if coping with the faster going.

It's come to my attention today the handicapper put up an Alison Hamilton horse Killone 33 pounds for coming 2nd in a Hexham Novice . They appealed and they agreed to only put him up 31lbs !! . This the same crew who dropped Wonderful Charm 9lbs for coming 2nd in The Foxhunters at Cheltenham . Since that Hexham race 2 horses have ran from the race the 6th got beaten 57l ad the 4th lost by 112l . Think of this as you will . Anyway , just be aware when entering horses in certain races . . Kelso today it's nice to see a selling handicap attract 14 entries . I think a race like this should be run at least once a month in Scotland and the North . Thoughts anyone ?
