Social Saturday

Saturday is a work day and although we have just a couple of dozen horses left in training we had a progressive morning. Argentix has settled in well and he is learning about our gallops. He is just a few weeks off a race and we are looking forward to racing the tall elegant grey.

We had a social morning with owners coming in, includimg Colin and Nicola Drysdale who came to pat their new…

Cleaning The Yard

It is always great to come back to the yard after a few days away and I am impressed with the progress that has been made. Led by Jamie, Jordan, Ciorstaidh and El the yards are well on with powerwashing, disinfecting and painting the boxes.

This year we are using chemicals from Kilco who are leaders in dairy hygiene and they have given us a protocol of chemical detergent followed by a strong…

Three More Coming Back To Arlary

We have walked over twenty miles in the past two days looking at horses at the Goffs sales, but it has been worthwhile as we have bought three lovely horses.

ROSSAMILAN, pictured, is a six year old who has improved with each run this season, making all and winning at the end of March. He is a gorgeous looking horse, very strong and has a super easy going character. He should be ideal for…

Near To Tears Second On Chase Debut And Day One Purchases From Goffs UK

We were delighted with Near To Tears' chase debut this evening at Hexham where, given an excellent ride by Derek she was settled, jumped well and stayed on to be second over two and a half miles. This was a nice step up for her, and she should give her owners, Julian and Karenina Morrison-Bell a lot of fun over the next few months; they are pictured with Derek and Jaimie in the paddock before the…

Rasen And Young Horses Including Two For Sale

A flat run from Sky Khan today as he was too keen early then did not pick up as he can, this is not his true showing and I am sure that we can get him back to form in the next few months.

At home, Thomas Kendall and John Johnston were in to see Run Rocky Run have a jump in the school. This four year old by Vertical Speed continues to grow and should be a nice type for novice hurdles in the…

Aintree, Home, And Market Rasen

A solid run from Catchthemoonlight at Aintree last night, to be fifth in their mares handicap hurdle. Catch took a little bit of time to warm up to her jumping which is unusual but once in gear she ran a good race, just getting hampered in the home straight, but staying on to the line. The longer trip is fine for her and she should continue to pay her way back down in grade.

This morning we…

Lots Of Places At Perth

There were plenty of places at Perth for the team but no winners. However, we had some great runs for the future.

Mr Grumpy (who is the least grumpy horse) ran an improved race to be second, looking much more settled and jumping better. He is now qualified for handicaps, but with a little more maturity he will be capable of winning a novice or maiden hurdle this summer. He is pictured coming…

Spoils Of War Gives The Team Their First Win Of The Season

Spoils Of War gave us a mildly surprising first win of the new season when streaking home at Perth this evening. Poor Spoils was very close to being put to sleep after a deep tendon cut at Kelso two years ago, and it the skill of our vet Eugenio, and the patience of his owners, Mark, Mhairi, Rob, Ginny and James gave him the chance to return to training. This season has been a tricky one for him…

Pre Perth

It's the time of year when we do landworks and improve the facilities at the two yards. Currently the digger is in at Arlary clearing a banking and readying the ground for a lunge ring and turnout paddock, and landscaping the back land.

Meanwhile we continue to ready the team for Perth, Aintree, Market Rasen and Hexham. This morning, after a nice bit of rain, we schooled Catchthemoonlight…

In Search Of..

In search of new talent we have been attending many of the weekend Irish point to points and yesterday a group of us were at Bartlemy near Cork. Pictured are Scu, me, Oli, Jamie, Derek and Lea, note the much needed waterproofs and wellies.

A high proportion of our yards horses are ex Irish point to pointers and it is most important that we buy the good ones, young horses with improvement…
